Just checking over the 13 RDB for a winter trip and dicovered the 4 x phillips head mounting screws on the single propane carrier are loose...this could be a serious issue while travelling...for all the mini's out there...check yer mounting screws...
I think some lock tite is in order for the new double carrier I'm going to put on...
[p]My Group 24 carrier was rocking too within the first few hundred miles. The one I built that spans the outer tongue tube has not loosened so far in thousands of miles. Same fasteners different approach.[/p][p]
[/p][p]I just clamped the dual tank base to the center tube and so far so good. It just rests on the outer tubes.[/p]
Nice catch.
On our 21BHS, I swapped the positions of the propane tanks and battery, in order to clear a spot so the WDH chains could be closer to vertical.
When I did, the tanks seemed a bit wobbly. I fixed this with two aluminum supports. I secured them with pop rivets to keep the holes drilled in the frame as small as possible:

Still secure and snug after about 5,000 miles.
I could be wrong, But when I looked at my 16DB at the dealer before I bought it I don't think the propane hoder or battery had been mounted yet. It could be up to the dealer to put those on?
I don't know if it's still the case, but in the fall of '14, both the battery tray and the propane tank(s) holder on the 16TBS were dealer installed, not factory installed.
I think it might be worth a separate thread on periodic basic equipment safety checks (better than the one in the owners manual). I'll search around and see if anyone has posted one yet. Tank and battery security for sure would be on there.
the screws on our original battery holder were rotted enough that they both broke off when removing them. so it would be good for everyone to keep an eye on then (and they were under the battery box, which was also screwed into the holder, making them a pain to keep an eye on). our propane tank had decent screws, but was pretty loose.
built a dual battery holder out of steep angle and mounted up a dual propane bottle holder off amazon. no longer have to worry about running out of either. probably not a mod for those worried about tongue weight though

What's the tank behind the batteries?
fuel cell...got tired of carrying 5 gal cans
I checked my double tank mount and found two of the screws were broken off at the heads.
" Oh damn I broke a screw... oh oh I broke another... no body will notice lets just sell this thing to some poor sucker!" Quality control at it's best!
I have never taken a screwdriver near the propane mount, and can't imagine very many use cases where I would, so...
But if I did, and broke a screw, I'd probably be thinking "what the heck with these cheap-ass ghetto chinese-made screws that shear off before stripping out the aluminum ?" as opposed to "Oh NOES !!! Let's sell the RV and run aways !!!!!"
Almost positive that's what I'd be thinking.
