When I am on my way to our next campsite, and I am driving, towing the Camplite behind me, I have sometimes realized that I am smiling. I love to drive, knowing that I am on my way to someplace I haven't been before, and who knows what I will find when I get there. I also enjoy catching site of RVs heading in the oppodit direction.
I believe some people call this "flow". My next port of call will be Savannah GA, with possibly a trip to Hilton Head Island, if it isn't flooded. What's not to like?
Happiness ? That's like R.O.U.S.'s. I don't think it exists.
Just when you thought you were safe.......

@leslie, I'm with you on this. There is just something about that drive, when everything is working with you, it can become almost zen like. Its even better after I've pulled in and gotten the basic setup completed and a campfire going :)
We camp all over the nation, enjoy the sights along the way and having pleasant surprises when we arrive at campground. We were checking into Keholes SP WY campground for one night night and saw a small sign with arrow saying Devil's Tower. Asked the Lady when we checked in, is that the famous Devil's Tower and she said yes. She told us about a 17 mile dirt road short cut and we thanked her. Had time to set up camp and capture nice photos before sunset. See very interesting sights along the way, too. We really enjoy camping, the trip, and exploring, like a couple Kids in a candy store!

What a great set of pictures, rideandfly!
Not to be to nosey, but, where are you staying in Savannah? Skidaway Island is a good place, there are a few spots at Ft. Pulaski, but I think they are for Camp Host
I have reservations for a week at Stoney Crest Plantation Campground - in Bluffton SC. I read an article in The New York Times Travel section about how nice Bluffton's downtown was, and how convenient it was to stay there and go to Savannah to the west and Hilton Head Island to the east. I talked to my husband and we decided that we would use this travel article as a guide.
I pay attention to all of the trip reports posted here, as well. I have a wish list of places where we can camp. The trip reports posted here have been added to my wish list. I have been especially impressed with rideandfly's reports about the COE campgrounds. We have stayed at a couple of them and really enjoyed our stays.
We are currently on Hilton Head Island and have not seen signs of flooding. We are staying in a condo, though. We are still waiting patiently for our 21BHS.

Are there any beaches on Hilton Head Island where people can walk with their dogs?
If you are still there when we get yo Bluffton, you can take a look at our Camplite 21-BHS.
Hunting Island SP SC close to Beaufort SC is nice when you have a site on the ocean.

I just got home Friday night (I work 12 weeks on 12 weeks off on a ship) I live about an hour from Savannah in Metter Ga, but I was born and raised in Savannah, if need any info, just let me know. I don't go the Hilton Head much, sometimes to Parris Island. IF you are veteran, or have base privileges and you want to stay in Savannah, there is a camp site on Hunter Army Air base, near the gate by the Savannah Mall. they are cheep, quiet, but VERY well located for the logistics of getting around Savannah.
My husband is a Vietnam-era veteran, but he was drafted (while we were on our honeymoon!) and served, so I don't think that qualifies us to stay at those types of campgrounds. I appreciate the sacrifices you and your family make to serve our country.
I will be telling what we will do in the Savannah - Bluffton - Hilton Head Island area in the Trip Reports section. My husband wants to visit the port in Savannah and I think there is some Civil War era fort that he wants to see. I want to visit the gardens and parks.
We lived in Madison Indiana for almost 40 years. There is a fountain in a park in Madison that is the twin sister of a fountain in a park in Savannah, so we have to find that.
If you had to choose one place in Savannah that is not to be missed, what would that be?
There are two civil war Forts in Savannah area (actually 3, one is in Richmond Hill but it is very small). Ft. Pulaski is off hwy 80 on the way to Tybee Island. It is a National Park site and is VERY nice. The other is Ft. Jackson in Savannah off Presidents extension, it is smaller than Ft. Pulaski but still nice, a little hard to find, so you really have to look for the signs.
The fountain is in Forsyth Park. It is the biggest and most famous fountain in Savannah. It is located between Drayton, Whitaker, East Gaston, and East Park. There are parking lots off East Park and off Drayton

There is a Vietnam memorial above River Street on the east side, between River Street and Bay Street
IF I have to list the things to do in Savannah? Well it's hard to pick just one, and I am cheap, so if it's free, it's for me.
1) Picnic lunch in Bonaventure cemetery, but make your way to the back of the cemetery where it meets the river, (for sentimental reasons, this would be my 1st choice)
2) Walk along the shops of River Street
3) Picnic lunch in Forsyth Park
4) Even though it's not free and about 20 minutes from downtown savannah, visit Ft. Pulaski, then go to Tybee for a walk at the beach
As far as food, forget all those touristy places, go to the Crystal Beer Parlor at 301 W Jones St, this is where the locals go. (We don't eat at the Lady and Sons, we all know how to make fired chicken already)

We are currently on South Forest Beach just west of Coligny Beach- there is public access there. It's very peaceful. Beaches are pretty empty but lovely.

Have you checked out the Allstays military app? It identifies campgrounds that veterans can use for reduced prices.
Please thank your hubby for his service.

Leslie I love the travel. The driving at times is better then the destination. Nirvana :-)
