Title: hail damage to bathroom roof vent cover
Post by: scout on August 04, 2015, 11:50:22 PM
Hi everyone,

Sadly, today we had quite a hail storm. In addition to our siding, subaru, and shingles, we suffered some damage to the CL. Just wondering if anyone has the details (type and model) of the bathroom vent cover in the 13 RBD so I can install an new one.

many thanks

KC :'(

I replaced mine with new ones available at Camping World.  Easy change.

I have seen black.  I also saw some metal ones on etrailer.com.  They looked interesting to me.

I thought about the metal one, hail wouldn't be a problem anymore. I think I will order a larger maxx air to go over top which should be enough against the hail we get here...

Thanks for all your help, very much appreciated. Will probably stay with the orig and the max air. Then back on the road for a few weeks... :)

Max-air makes a combination power vent and vent cover all in one (see link below), which would allow you to run while it was raining (without having to put a separate cover over it).

gb,

thanks for the link. I just received the maxxair II in the mail today so I will try that first, until I choose to upgrade the bathroom fan. We have the mini bathroom on the 13 RDB so it doesn't get a whole lot of use...I like the option though!!

Is there an issue with running the stock fan with the max air II over the vent? I am guessing there may be some flow restrictions with the cover over top?

thx

KC

Hi everyone, thanks for chipping in and helping with recommendations for the repair. Today I spent a massive 45 min to install 2 maxx air vent covers. really need to take the tutorial for pic posting...

btw was worried the vent cover at the bathroom wasn't going to fit with the sewer vent right in front, but no problem, everything fit like a glove...off to mountains for a week to try and catch some lakers...

happy camping!!

Would love to replace my dingy white one with smoke covers, but I looked once and the changeover looked difficult.  Do you have any links on how to do this, and I might re think about this.?  Sorry for the hail damage, been there and it sucks.

if you are talking about just replacing the vent/fan covers, it is a 10 min job.   you will need a pair of pliers and a phillips screwdriver

raise the cover all the way
remove the handle
remove the screen
disconnect the raising arm from the center support of the cover (small flat clip)
on top of the camper, slide the cover off to one side or the other (you may have to straighten out the thin metal piece of the edge of the hinge if they bent it over
slide the new cover on, bend the piece of metal over to keep the cover from sliding off
re connect/reinstall the pieces from the inside that were removed/disconnected

What other damage did your  CL sustain from the hail?    Sorry to hear about all the other damage; we had to replace our roof, most of our siding, and our garage door  seven years ago; hail can really cause havoc.
