Hi all, I would like to install two wire magazine racks on wall to left of wardrobe closet on my Mighty 11, but it seems clear that the Adzel wallboard is far too thin to support much of anything. My idea is to cut a sheet of quarter inch plywood to line the inside wall out of the closet for reinforcement and then mount the racks by using bolts and nuts through pre-drilled holes. Will attached plywood to wall board with Titebond 3 glue. Can you tell me if this is the best solution? Thanks for your help.
If you must do this, dont use wood. Get a piece of lucite at tap plastics.
I predict the contents of the rack will end up on the floor in transit.
In every case where I've wanted to mount something to the wall too heavy for Command strips, I've added a flat aluminum bar to the mounting holes of the object to be hung such that the extension bar could be screwed directly to the aluminum framing of the trailer. I even paint the extension bars black to match the trim inside. I'm still photo-challenged on this site, so pics will have to wait a bit. I'm convinced the Adzel is so wimpy that over time, even reinforced areas would bend and look odd or give out.
Christina,
Magazines and books are made of paper and paper is heavy. You have to attach to something that will take the weight of the mags both statically (parked) and dynamically (on the road). Azdel by it self will not, even if spread out by the plywood. It will just rip around the edges of the wood. I suggest you try to tap into the 1x1 aluminum framing of the cabinets even if you have to do it on the outside of the cabinet. There should be a 1x1 tube along the top of the cabinet from which you could hang something. Maybe there is a 1x1 tube going crosswise in the middle of the wall you're working with. A bit hard for me to guess without seeing it.
The outside walls of the CL are usually more substantial than the interior cabinets. Maybe you can find a place on the side wall, possibly next to the window. If you end up hanging something from the tubing near the ceiling you will have to secure the bottom of the rack to prevent it from banging the wall. 3M Command Strips or heavy duty Velcro can help and they can be repositioned when/if things shift over time. In any case I'd keep the weight to a minimum. Don't try to save 6 months of Trailer Life and a CW catalog on the wall. ;)

Thank you, everyone, for your excellent advice. Glad I am proceeding cautiously. Charlie and Merlin, I studied the support structure of the cupboard walls and clearly see that using aluminum flat stock to support the magazine racks either side to side or top to bottom is the best way to go. Needs to be on outside of wall next to bed. I could clip a very small reading light to the wire rack also, which meets the need. Will find material that matches the tiny trailer as closely as possible and paint it black. Will send photos when completed. And pic of whole thing, Pinstriper, on the floor if it doesn't. Smile!
By the way, I mounted a 1ft long magnetized aluminum bar over the stove for holding knives. I tried to use a stud finder to locate a structural metal crossmember but gave up when everything beeped in every direction. So I drilled two small holes through wall board smaller in diameter than wallboard plugs, inserted wallboard plugs to accept the screws after dousing them liberally with Titebond 3, and then did the same with the screws before inserting them through the magnetic strip braces on either end. I think this will work. Will let you know if this install bites the dust. Grin!

I'm thinking two horizontal strips of 1"x1/8" aluminum flat stock spanning the left and right sides of the cabinet and painted black would work. You could mount the mag holder with short 10-32 or 10-24 machine screws. Use large flat washers and nuts inside the cabinet. You could make washers from 1"x1" square pieces of the 1x1/8 flat stock if necessary. And I'm looking forward to pix of Pinstriper on the floor ;) "Punctuation, ............."

Quotenuts inside the cabinet
[/p][p]I sense I am being dissed, but I'm too far into the gin to parse it all out. So I'm going to assume it's all in good fun and just roll with it.

It was either a case of ungainly grammar or perhaps just a misplaced 'Pin!'????

It just brought a strange vision to my head. Something about the baseball uniform on the floor catching falling books. Don't mind me :)

Hey Charlie, Merlin and Pinstriper, I DID IT! Thanks to your great advice and encouragement, my wire magazine racks are installed and look good!
(First time posting images from Flickr. Hope images work!)
1. Purchased 1 inch x 1/8 inch aluminum flat stock. Cut two pieces to length to support two wire magazine racks. Noticed it was possible to loosen the aluminum black trim on the outside top of the clothes closet enough to let me slide the 1inch stock in so it could be hooked over the tubular framing inside the closet. Bent the top of each piece into two 90d angles, but had to unbend them a bit so they would slide along the ceiling into the closet.

2. Did some drilling to mount the wire racks on the flat metal, and fastened them with flat head bolts, washers, and acorn nuts.

3. Added a piece of flat stock to crossways along the bottom of the wire rack assembly with plan of securing left and right on cabinet outside face trim for additional stability.

4. Spray painted everything black. Mounted it to the exterior cabinet wall. Re-bent top ends of the flat stock down, drilled through them into the cabinet framing, and secured them with self-tapping screws.

5. And it is done! Seems strong and secure, but won't overload in hopes of avoiding photo of Pinstriper on the floor. LOL. Thanks again for excellent help. You definitely put me on the right path for a clean install, much better than my own Plan A.
RE: Photos. Don't know why my name and title are on them. Is it safe to erase this part of BBC tags so they don't show?

You can either edit as you post as detailed by Fasteddieb or go back in after you post and edit out the undesired line. Or you can switch to Photobucket or Imgur.com which don't do this to start with. Also, Imgur does not link the posted image back to your whole library. Photobucket also prohibits this if you set an option. Don't know if Flickr allows you to block this path, but then I'm not a fan of Yahoo/Flickr.

Great install work! Nice job. I bet those racks will "sit-stay" for a long time.
you'll be able to have a lot of magazine with 2 racks!
Construction adhesive, but be darn sure where you want the item.
