We keep our clothes in the compartment above the bed in our 21RBS, and of course in the closet on hangers. But those over-bed compartments aren't ideal because--
1. They're deep and it's hard to reach all the way to the back.
2. They're awkward to get to, by either squeezing in next to, or climbing over the bed.
3. The doors don't stay up on their own so you have to use one hand to hold it open and one hand to rummage around, looking for that pair of pants you're sure you packed....somewhere.
Have any of you found a good solution? Or do you keep your clothes elsewhere?
I'm thinking about using packing cubes to help keep it organized up there, but would love to hear your ideas.
Oh, and it works for us to keep our shoes in that cabinet below the pantry and socks/underwear in the bathroom cabinet above the sink. (My husband built some shelves inside that bathroom cabinet to make it more functional - bless him! Not sure why LL neglected to put any in there.)
Thoughts? Thanks!

Brenda,
I can't solve all your problems, but I can keep the overbed cabinets open. Several solutions have been posted. Near the end of the thread I describe a simple magnetic catch. Push it up, pull it down, with one hand.

[/p][p]That's a great thread Charlie linked to. I flipped our doors upside down so they stay open like, I think, Tinkeringtechie suggested. Both options help a lot especially with our 16DB having no side floor room.
We only store bedding up there and things we don't need often. Rolling clothes to stay wrinkle free and take up less space is an old airline travel trick. We manage to jam all our clothes into the rear closet by replacing the odd windowed hanging rod with a regular one this way and adding a heavy denier closet organizer.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Not pretty but that's what the door is for.[/p][p]

We go camping with our dogs, so we have jeans, shirts, sweat shirts, socks and underwear. They go in large Sterilite plastic boxes we bought at WalMart. 1 box for me, 1 box for hubby. At camp, we store the boxes on the top bunk - we have the 21-BHS. Going down the road, the boxes go on the floor in front of the closed bathroom door.
We also have a box that holds kitchen utensils. That goes outside when we camp, goes stacked on top of a clothing box when going down the road.
Placing these boxes behind the axles reduces tongue weight. Placing them on the floor keeps the center of gravity low.
[p]The high cabinets over the bed are used for fishing poles and cushions. The "closet" that blocks the feet for one half the bed gets hanging jackets. Clothes go in a daypack/backpack under the mini-dinette-ette seats - she gets one side and I get the other.
Boots, shoes, hats, and other fishing or recreational gear goes in the cabinet over the fridge.
+1 to rolling clothes for compact and wrinkle-free packing. We use [a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwtBhc19gqw"]this method for folding[/a], then roll from there.[/p][p]
[/p][p]The cabinet over the sink has a Tupperware with DVD's and owners manuals. We also keep a few battery lanterns, gin, vodka, bourbon and scotch up there. And the faceplate from the stereo, which taking it off keeps it from glowing smurf blue all night. Food goes in the cabinet under the stove, dishes under the sink, and pots and pans in the cabinet under the cabinet under the sink.
Wait, crap. Sorry, that was a godzilla clip. This is [a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5AWQ5aBjgE"]the folding video[/a]. Really, I swear.[/p]
My wife has examined the storage compartments on our soon to be acquired 21 BHS and decided that the storage compartment under the queen bed is the best place for our cloths. We each have bags which we keep our cloths in and the bags are (or will be) stored in that compartment. Hanging obviously goes in that compartment. Storage space is a premium and we just can't see using any of the cabinets in the kitchen area for clothing.

[/p][p]And can't believe I did not think of removing the face plate. The trim falls off all the time anyways...should've been a clue.

We have a 13QBB. My wife and I have given this a lot of thought and experimentation on trips that range from 20 to 40 days. Are approach is as follows:
1) We go through our stuff each trip and identify what was not really needed. For use this has been the most important part of managing the storage problem
2) I replaced the pistons under the bed to hold it up with the stuff we put on the bed (e.g. better mattress, blandets, etc. In my case I doubled the strength of the pistons and my increase it further (they are cheap). I also added a cable to stop the bed from rising before it hits the window frame.
3) We went to the Container Store during a sale and bought enough water proof boxes to fill under the bed. (Water proof is important when traveling is very dusty environments). We did not choose the biggest boxes, we chose ones that we could lift when full of clothes, etc. We are vey careful not to place heavy things here as we do not want to introduce sway.
4) We put our clothes that we are using over the next 4 to 5 days in small baskets, plastic bins in the overheads. Basically we minimize the need to go under the bed.
5) We use 3M hooks to put hooks where we can hang things with out being too "cluttery".
6) We have an [span]absolutely silly closet For a while we used a hanging shoe bag to store odds and ends. It now stores the jack, the manuals and all of our dirty laundry.
It is fun to read what people do to manage this issue. There are lots of creative ideas from people with varying needs. [/span]

Thanks for the responses. And thank you, Charlie, for referring me to that previous thread. Great ideas there. Sorry for re-asking something that has been covered here before.
One problem with dilemmas like this (use of storage space) is that unless we have the same CL model, our spaces are all different. For example, Woofit's use of his closet is brilliant, but our closet is way too narrow. But maybe someone else will see this thread and be able to use his idea and so it's all good. That's why we're all here. :)
Thanks again.
Wife's clothes go in her bag under the bed. Mine in the tall cabinet beside the bed. Cabinets above the bed are storage of rarely used items, extra pillows, spare toiletries, extra towels (for the dog mostly) etc.
We do travel light, and the bulk of our stuff (food, and gear) are stored in the triangular cabinet under the TV, under the kitchen sink and in the pantry.
We have not found an appropriate place for a hamper yet, but that will be figured out by next trip. Once shelves are added, stuff will adjust a bit.
