Title: Anticipation is making me crazy
Post by: ammobob on May 14, 2015, 05:39:56 PM
Our custom 21BHS came off the line last Thursday, is prepped for delivery to SIRV and I can't see it until mid June when we go pick it up. I would have already taken off to get it but we have reservations in Yellowstone NP 17-24 June. Just can't justify the milage and costs but I am dying to go camping. In serious withdrawals here :'(

Waiting is terrible. Can't you visit with it over a weekend?

If you visit ahead of time and go over all of the systems, if any problems show up, the dealer could have everything ready to go when you are.

On the day we showed up to take delivery of our Camplite at Sunny Island, we were there at 10 AM to go over all the systems. We had reservations at a nearby state park. We needed to be there by 5 PM. This was in late October in Northern Illinois.

We found a few things that needed work, the thorniest problem being an electrical problem. They assured us that they would have the electricity all worked out that day. Unfortunately, 3 other new campers were being prepared for delivery that day, and the techs would work on ours for a while, then go work on someone else's, then come back to ours.

We did not roll out of there until 6:30 PM. I towed an RV for the very first time in my life in Chicago-area Friday night rush hour traffic. It was too late to go to the state park. We spent our first night in our first RV in a Wal-Mart parking lot, something my husband really did not want to do.

All turned out OK. We were quite comfortable and happy with our new camper. It was just a very long day to take delivery of our Camplite.

SIRV is 2000 miles away so I will just have to look at everyone else's camper pictures for another month.

Yep on the ouch. As a previous LL 16 DB owner I have a couple of years of their campers under my belt so should help with the inspection/expectations. Have a copy of your PDI checklist with me too. We have an 8:30 AM appointment already and have all day to make sure it is right. Plus we have the 16th and 17th to get to Yellowstone and are spending the night in Lincoln, NB on the way so some shakedown enroute.

If I get desperate I have 3 brothers who live in Northern Indiana and all of them worked for RV MFGs until the economy dropped. Might get one of them to go do the inspection before I get there. 2 were foremen so I would trust them to make sure it is right.

I will say the other traffic treated me great out on the highways traveling through 7 States.

[/p][p]Hang in there, before you know it you will have your New LL and in Beautiful Yellowstone.

My trip to pick up our small-but-mighty CL11FDB from the factory in Wakarusa was 1,526 miles each way. My 15-year-old son & I did the journey together. The return trip was the first time I'd ever towed anything and it went pretty well. The worst part was having to pay sales tax at the border. (It is never fun paying taxes).

Well feeling a bit better. My brother (a previous foreman at an RV MFG) works 20 miles from LL and is going over there this morning to do an inspection of our camper. Sent him our PDI checklist and order form for him to check what he can without water and power. He'll send pictures too and I am sure we will talk on the phone while he's there to make sure we cover all we can. Will be nice to get LL to fix what he finds before they ship it to SIRV.
Shawn at LL is great. Verified the camper is still there and told me to have Gary hook-up with Troy to go through the camper.

[/a]My brother got to inspect the camper which was obviously not ready for shipment to SIRV. They have some things they need to fix before they ship it. Already e-mailed Shawn with the fix it list. Will figure out how to post pics shortly.

For those who will wonder we went with no graphics to prevent fading or pealing typical in the heat out West.
We went with the retro look with the cabinets hence the white and aluminum interior skins matching the exterior. We did the solid countertops because we had delamination problems in our 16DB. Again the heat out West.

Upgraded the rear bumper for a bike rack.

4 weeks left to make sure they get it right but things are looking up.

A bit of a process to get pictures posted but figured it out. Can't do it from an IPad.

Ooh, I like the solid countertop. Wish I had thought of that when ordering mine.

For posting photos from iPhone/iPad I upload them to my free Flickr account first, then post the link to that.

A little convoluted extracting the actual jpg file name from the link, but works fairly easily and quickly once you get it down.

We got our 21BHS just over a year ago from Sunny Island. Only a couple flaws - a wheel was badly marred and was replaced. The quick-connect on the outdoor faucet was reluctant, but it turns out that's a common issue with an easy fix each time.

After getting it home, found out the AIR/CABLE switch was wired backwards, and there was an issue with common and ground being "bonded". Later, one of the doors on the pass-through storage began to bind heavily and was replaced under warranty.

Only unresolved issue is a crack in the slideout window that was reported within the warranty period that we need to follow up on with our local dealer, Southland RV.

That's all that's coming to mind right now, though you might want to search out my rather lengthy thread on our delivery process from March, 2014.

Thanks for the info. Have reviewed most of the threads pertaining to delivery, problems and mods. We'll see how it goes next month.

Set back after set back. Went from it's ready to be picked up on 13 May and delivery to the dealer to we are waiting for some trim pieces and it has to go back to paint. Then it's we are moving it to the new plant on the 20th for some additional repair work. Completed on the 28th and still sitting on their lot. Within 2 weeks of a major road trip to pick this up and it's still not at SIRV. Gonna keep after them this week to get it moved so SIRV has time to go through it before we get there. Too many plans to change now????

This is something similar to what I went through, with delays at the factory. Then it sat at the factory after it was completed, due to a lack of drivers available to take it to the dealer.

I called my salesman often, and when he couldn't come to the phone, I talked to anybody who would listen. It was past the delivery date. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to try it out before cold weather setting in would require winterizing the unit. This is what I made sure that everyone at Sunny Island knew.

I talked to the dealer about going to the factory myself to drive it to the dealer for servicing, as some others on this board have done. The problem with this idea was that this was my first RV, and would be my first time towing anything. The possibility of something going wrong with me towing was too great.

Finally, at the end of October, after placing my order at the end of July, Sunny Island sent a truck and two employees to get my Camplite. And that was when I was able to take delivery, at the end of October.

So, this was my story. Hope it helps.

I have an ace up my sleeve if I need it but am going to push them as hard as I have too just to get it moved this week. My brother has a F350 diesel and lives 20 miles from LL. May have him go get it this Friday and deliver it to SIRV on Saturday. LL can just pay him what they pay their drivers.

I think the dealer pays the drivers to deliver, and then pass that on to you. Did you see a delivery charge on your bill? I had a delivery charge on mine. So, if ypur brother delivers, you could just work it out with him.

Shawn at LL just informed me our camper is scheduled to ship today. The pessimist in me says scheduled does not mean shipped but the optimist in me says to trust people. Guess I will see if I get the call from SIRV on Monday telling me the camper is there. Anyway 1 week from Monday is D-day. Can't wait to get it to Yellowstone and camp for 7 days. Tired of being cooped up inside.

Hope your camper goes out soon.

My experience with dealing directly with LivinLite, however, has not been good.  I made an order over the phone for an awning and was assured that it was in stock and that it would get shipped out right away.  After two weeks- nothing.  Contacted LL by email and was told that the awning was in stock and they were "hoping" to get it out "soon" and would "try" to let me know when it would arrive.  A later email shifted blame to the supplier- ignoring the fact that I was told over the phone AND by email that it was in stock.  I love my camper, but my impression of LL's customer service has dropped in a big way.  I told them to just cancel the order.

Just confirmed our new camper is on the dealers lot now and going into prep. Ton of bricks off my shoulders now. Not looking forward to the long drive to get it but will have fun on the way back. Pics starting Monday.
